| Project Synopsis: Challenge/Opportunity | Established in 2015, Electus is a Tampa-based social enterprise founded on the basic principle that opportunity is everything. Empowering young people to learn financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and career/work-readiness (FLEC) skills and behaviors is one of the dynamic ways to lift and impact them and the communities in which they live. With Electus' Life Hub, an experiential FLEC Education, and financial technology, kids learn: Power of earning and income generation. Value of money and wealth building. Entrepreneurship and career development. Confidence in managing finances. How to set goals & build a vision for their future. |
| Project Synopsis: Activities/Actions Required | Through our Life Hub technology, Electus improves the quality of life of young people today so that they can realize their financial, career, and life aspirations tomorrow. Life Hub combines high-value educational content on the 5 key pillars Earn, Save, Spend, Invest & Give, unique income-earning opportunities, and banking services to help school-aged kids build financial capability through fun, evidence-based and experiential learning. The core app features have been inspired by the latest research on forming positive financial behaviors in youth. Life Hub has been developed in collaboration with external, independent experts, including advice from an Advisory Panel that brings experience across financial capability, youth mental health and well-being, and digital services for children. The app also uses a framework designed to measure financial capabilities in kids of various ages and personalize their learning - enabling better outcomes. | Project Synopsis: Expected Results | Our objective in working with the NYU Wagner students is to identify the basic skill sets that are missing, not only in college graduates, but more importantly, in high school students entering the workforce. Clearly finding and defining those missing skills and learnings and helping develop the edu-jobs/tasks to give them the opportunity to learn these skills before entering the workforce at 16 years. Research - The topic is just beginning to show up in the media. In depth research is needed to clearly identify the width and breadth of the missing skills employers are identifying. For example; The ability to count back change, handling real money.. Retailers need this basic skill. What percent of 15 years olds don’t possess it? What is the best way to teach it? Surveys: Create and develop surveys for different industries to gather the statistics of the missing/needed skills. What does banking need, retailers, warehouses, etc, How important is your new hires (entry-level)to know how to count change. As example. |
